Canggu Club in Bali

Canggu Club in Bali is an expanding world-class sports and leisure complex, located within the island’s expatriate Canggu community area. Spanning 3.54ha, it houses several different facilities onsite, including a waterpark, a world-class fitness centre, tenpin bowling alley, tennis centre, kids club, spa, the island’s largest trampoline centre that is not just for kids, and multiple food and beverage outlets.

The club started off as an answer to the demands of expats living in the area looking for high quality leisure and a one-stop sports centre, and as private members club. Over time, in October 2014 there was a big push to attract non-members to some areas of its new fun facilities. Now, slightly renamed as ‘New Canggu Club’ it welcomes all, including locals and visitors, and has become a much popular weekend destination for families and holidaymakers staying around Canggu and Seminyak.

Next to the sports field is Splash Waterpark, built with families in mind, and is great for cooling off in the tropical sun. Mom and dad can lounge back while the kids splash away in the pools or race down colourful slides. Rest assured, all waterpark activities are under the watchful eyes of trained lifeguards.

Splash Waterpark in Bali is the latest addition to Bali’s collection of fun water parks. It is located right next to the main facilities of the Canggu Club sporting and leisure complex right along the road leading to Berawa Beach. The waterpark spans 2,400sqm with a number of pools and slides, and at that size, it might not contend much to the island’s premier Waterbom Bali, but its build and design is top quality, with supporting facilities that promise a fun and safe day out for all ages.

For grownups and bigger kids, among the options is Giant Racer, a high 90m-long slide that welcomes up to four participants for a single ‘race’ down. One of the features of this particular slide is there’s an integrated speedometer that tracks your race so you can check on a screen at the end to settle any disputes, and declare the true winner. A first of its kind in Bali. Speed Racer is a smaller slide designed for younger kids so they won’t miss out on the fun.

Those who don’t like straight and monotonous lines can check out the Super Bowl, which sets you whirling as you gain momentum with every turn and into a tailspin around a giant bowl, before shooting out and splashing into the plunge pool below. Then there’s the Big Red, a large, aptly named tunnelling slide which starts five storeys high and sets you onto a longer joyride through rolling twists and curves.

And then there’s the milder set in the collection with a Crazy Creek, where you can head to after for a timeout or in between races to catch your breath before the next round. The steady stream lets you gently meander through a 102m watercourse, and is fit for all. Obviously, the kids don’t know what ‘timeout’ means, and they can always make good use of the dedicated Splash Playground, with a shallow lagoon, a fort with water cannons, mini slides and theme park-styled props. Lifeguards are on duty and keep their watchful eye at all times.

Waterbom Bali

Waterbom Bali is where you can enjoy a full wet day out with family and friends, through numerous waterslides, rides and playful games. This island’s premier water park is just across the road from the Discovery Kartika Plaza and Discovery Shopping Mall in south Kuta, and has grown to feature 17 exciting slides and water games for all ages since its inception in 1993. The park covers 3.8Ha of tropical gardens and pools, as well as a complete host of dining and leisure facilities.

Waterbom Bali comprises numerous choices of slides that will keep you and your family occupied for a whole day. These include easy-going pools with mini slides to large scale adrenaline-pumping rides that start from significant heights. Services and facilities are top of its class, making it a must-do highlight for families while in Bali.

The ‘Smashdown 2.0’ is an upgrade of a popular slide, hence its name. You start at a height of 25.9m, enter a capsule with a trapdoor at your feet, which then releases you down a an adrenaline-pumping chute of a ride. If you dare, opt for the more thrilling ‘Climax’ that ups the ante, dropping you down with 2.5 G?force of speed, and whirls you through a near-vertical dip before looping back around.

Other rides for thrill-seekers include ‘Fast n’ Fierce’ and ‘Twin Racers’ where you can challenge your partner for a splashing race down. To wind down, there are more casual rides such as the ‘Double Twist’ and ‘Python’, named so due to their serpentine twists and turns. The unique ‘Boomerang’ takes you and a partner to scream your lungs out as you twist down a 20m drop, then get swept straight up back up again, before a sensational free fall. Some of the rides require specially designed tubes with grips to hold onto. Other snaky rides that will soon be ready are aptly named, the ‘Constrictor’ and ‘Green Vipers’.

The latest addition at Waterbom Bali is the Flow Rider Double, which lets you live the dream of boardriding on a five-foot stationary wave supplied by FlowRider Inc. You can surf with a partner at the same time, with a choice of a stand-up or a lay-down board. The little ones can have their fun times at ‘Funtastic’, a more playground type of section dedicated for kids, with shallow pools and fountains. For a truly placid ride around lush gardens, take a tube for yourself or a double tube for couples and follow the steady stream of the ‘Lazy River’. This is Waterbom Bali’s ultimate feature for a slow-paced relaxation ride through cascading waterfalls and lush foliage, and where you can forget the sense of time. Waterbom Bali features numerous choices of dining outlets. There’s also a swim-up bar that serves tropical drinks. Out of the pool, various canteens and open-air restaurants offer international and Indonesian snacks and cuisine.
